The Valentia Island Kind Scallop Festival, now in its seventh year, promises visitors scrumptious food and beautiful, secluded scenery. Entertainment will include live music, fishing, annual blessing of the boats and sports competitions. A number of family oriented events will take place such as face painting, scallop-shell painting and a kid’s duathlon. Of course, there will be plenty of stalls offering freshly cooked scallops for you to sample with the highlight of the festival being the crowing of Mr. King Scallop 2016 on Sunday evening. This competition aims to find the most talented scallop chef in Valentia. Valentia Island is a small island ensuring an intimate and relaxing event. This event will be a precursor to the 2016 Transatlantic Cable Festival which will start on the 14th July through to the 17th July – celebrating 150 years of the cable.
